Eights Swept by Expos at Home

The Rapid City Post 22 Expos would get two big innings in game two and finish off a sweep of Pierre Post 8 with 7-4 and 11-7 wins on Wednesday in Pierre.

The Expos would jump out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first controlling the game right away, but a two out RBI from Grayson Hunsley in the bottom of the first pulled Pierre within three and then a three run second tied the game at 4-4 as Nolan Petersen, Sutton Sonnenschein and Hunsley each had two out RBI singles. But a two run double in the third from McCoy Rippentrop would give the Expos the lead scoring three in the inning and it was all the scoring in the first game with a 7-4 Expos win. Pierre had 11 hits with 10 of the 11 all coming with two outs in an inning as Petersen went 2-4 and had the only non-two out hit. Brayden Houlette would go six innings on the mound picking up the loss giving up seven runs, five earned, on nine hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

Bridger Babcock would go the final inning in the first game and then start game two going four and 1/3 innings giving up four runs on four hits, six walks and a strikeout leaving with a no-decision. Pierre would take a 2-0 lead in the first inning without an RBI executing a double steal and scoring on a throwing error. Hunsley would add his third RBI of the day to give Pierre a 4-1 lead in the third and the lead would hold until the fifth. The Expos would score five runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to lead 11-4 with nine hits combined in the two innings. Charlie Simpson would have a two RBI triple to help pull Pierre within four at 11-7, but it was far as Pierre could get. Simpson would be charged with the loss going an inning and 2/3 giving up seven runs on nine hits with two walks and a strikeout. Weston Northrup threw a scoreless seventh allowing just a two out double.

Pierre falls to 6-22 on the season and will face Bismarck today in the final non South Dakota doubleheader. Coverage will start at 4:45 with first pitch at 5:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
