FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Fort Pierre City Council met in special session Friday to discuss the future of the city’s water supply. The city was moving forward with a plan to build more water storage before a handful of Council members delayed the effort by wanting to look at a different location. Andy Bruels with the state Department of Ag and Natural Resources says a delay puts hundreds of thousand of dollars in grant awards at stake…
Bruels says the interest rate on a new loan would be higher, meaning rate payers would have pay higher rates, at least for a time. The Council was presented information about why the process was moving the way it was. For Council member Larry Cronin, recent conversations with West River Lyman Jones Rural Water have him wanting to move away from more storage…
One alternate in the plan would provide for a booster station to move water as a crutch until the Western Dakota Rural Water System comes on line which could be decades. Councilman Greg Kenzy didn’t see the need…
A public hearing on the project is scheduled for tonight at the Fort Pierre City Council meeting.
