Eights Swept on Saturday at Dakota Classic

Pierre Post 8 is 0-3 in the Dakota Classic after dropping games to Harrisburg and West Fargo, 12-4 and 11-7 on Saturday.

Harrisburg would score seven runs in the first inning as all nine guys would reach base in the first. Eli Kokenge and Max Carlson would lead off the second and fifth with solo homers as Harrisburg would bust out 11 hits in the game. Miles Doyle and Grayson Hunsley would each have an RBI and Sutton Sonnenschein would drive in two runs all in the top of the fifth, but the game would end with an eight run rule in the fifth per tournament rules. Doyle would be tagged with the loss going just the first inning giving up seven runs with six earned. Colter Babcock would throw three and 1/3 innings giving up five runs, four earned on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts.

In game two, West Fargo would score three runs in the first, two in the second, five in the fifth and another run in the sixth as West Fargo would take advantage of the walks. six of the seven walks and hit batters would turn into runs including a three run double in the first inning by Owen Haugen. Haugen would finish with five RBIs for West Fargo. In the bottom of the fourth, Sonnenschein would triple home another two runs and Carter Schiefelbein would give the Eights the lead, 6-5 in the bottom of the fourth. However, a five run sixth would give the Vets the lead for good a leadoff home run from Bryce Nelson. Dawson Getz would go 2-3 as he, JJ Bucholz and Nolan Petersen each drove in a run for the Eights.

Pierre is now 1-10 on the season and 0-3 in pool play. Harrisburg would go 4-0 and win the pool as the Eights will end the Dakota Classic on Sunday at 1:00 against Bennington, Nebraska. Coverage will start around 12:45 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
