PIERRE, (KCCR) — Work has started to replace the roof of the State Capitol. Last December the Capitol Complex Restoration and Beautification Commission approved the repairs that include replacing the copper coverings over both legislative chambers. Kristine Day with the Office of the State Engineer told the Commission the new roof will be more resilient and prevent water from entering the building which has caused damage to walls inside the building…
The new roofing will be a dark colored rubberized surface. Replace of the Capitol dome is not a part of the project. The project is expected to take most of the summer to complete with completion in November. Built Right Roofing and Construction of Rapid City is performing the work.
