The Avera Research Institute has received a five-year, five-point-four million dollar grant through the Health Start Initiative to focus on reducing infant mortality in South Dakota. Project director Dr, Lacey McCormack says it’s a multi-pronged approach that goes beyond clinical treatment….

The project will also provide help for expectant mothers with healthy food through a partnership with Feeding South Dakota and rewards for healthy lifestyle choices. The target area includes 52 counties reaching the entire Avera Health footprint.
