Busy Monday For Pierre Police With Arrest, Robbery Investigation

PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre man is arrested Monday afternoon on multiple charges following a traffic stop. Pierre Police Captain Dusty Pelle says around two-pm an officer on patrol noticed 50 year-old David Shortey the Third of Pierre driving a vehicle. The officer pulled Shortey over near the intersection of Polk and Capitol Avenues, knowing Shortey had a suspended driver’s license. During the stop officers discovered Shortey had been using marijuana. Another adult and a young child were in the car at the time. Shortey was taken to the Hughes County Jail on charges including Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, Driving on a Suspended License, 1st offense Driving Under the Influence, Failure to Maintain Insurance; Ingestion of a Substance to Become Intoxicated and Possession of Less Than Two Ounces of Marijuana.

Meanwhile Pierre police are investigating an attempted robbery. Pelle says patrol officers were called around 4:30 pm Monday to the 400 Block of South Coteau. Police have no suspects and the incident remains under investigation. No further details have been released.
