PIERRE, (KCCR) — This week’s primary election was a busy one across central South Dakota. In Sully County, voters agreed to a referendum to increase property taxes by 90-cents per one-thousand dollars. The measure passed with 57-percent of the vote 257 to 195. Cassie Wendt won the primary election race for States Attorney in Jackson County. Wendt defeated Daniel Van Gorp 165 to 106 with 61-percent of the vote. In Legislative races, Mark Lapka beat Steven Roseland two-thousand 279 to one-thousand 756 in the District 23 Senate race, which includes Hand County. In the District 23 House primary Scott Moore and Spencer Gosch beat out incumbent James Wangsness. Moore, an incumbent had 42-percent of the vote while Gosch, a former lawmaker took 37-percent. Wangsness had 21-percent of the vote. Both House and Senate races in District 21 are within recount margins. In the Senate race incumbent Erin Tobin lost to challenger Mykala Voita one-thousand, 842 to one-thousand, 794. In the House race in District 21, which includes Tripp County, Marty Overweg and Jim Halverson secured the Republican nominations, beating out former lawmaker Lee Qualm. Overweg had 40-percent of votes to Halverson’s 31-percent.
