Zap Fall Late in Hastings

A three run bottom of the eighth inning would give the Hastings Sodbusters an 11-10 lead and hold on to get the win in the series opener against the Oahe Zap on Thursday.

After being down 2-0 at the end of the first inning, the Zap would score five runs in the top of the second to lead 5-2 and would lead 6-3 heading to the bottom of the fifth before Hastings would put up another four runs to retake the lead at 7-6. But a four run seventh gave Oahe the lead back at 10-8, however, with runners at second and third and nobody out in the bottom of the eighth, a fielding error allowed the first run to score, a dropped third strike allowed the tying run to score and still with nobody out a double play turned scored the go-ahead and winning run as two of the three runs were unearned in the eighth. Oahe went 1-2-3 in the ninth for the loss. Emiliano Curiel had three RBIs as Brandon Wiegel had another two RBIs with three hits.

Oahe is now 1-5 on the season and will finish its two game series against Hastings tonight with first pitch at 6:35. The Zap will travel to Fremont for a three game set starting Saturday with first pitch at 7:05 and then 6:05 on Sunday.
