Eights to Open Season Tonight after Postponement Thursday

After Thursday’s games were postponed in Watertown, Pierre will now begin the season today in Brookings with its lone games of the weekend.

Pierre finished last season at 9-28 overall and 6-18 in South Dakota games placing 12th and falling to Rapid City Post 22 in the Regional Round. Pierre loses eight members with Ridge Leimbach also injured as just George Stalley, Cooper Terwilliger, Miles Doyle and Nolan Petersen return from last year’s senior legion team. However, Grayson Hunsley, who played in 2022 and missed all of 2023 with an injury returns and the likes of Trevor Rounds, JJ Bucholz, Charlie Simpson, Dawson Getz, Sutton Sonnenschein and Weston Northrup all have high school baseball varsity experience heading into the summer.

Brookings finished the high school season in seventh place, but were eliminated by Roosevelt. The Bandits were runners-up in the 2023 state tournament last summer. Brookings was swept by Watertown on Tuesday but swept Renner 2 on Wednesday to begin the season at 2-2.

First pitch tonight in Brookings is scheduled for 5:00 with coverage starting at 4:45 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
