PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota State Aeronautics Commission has approved funding for a weather station at the airport in Onida. Jon Becker with the Department of Transportation’s Office of Air, Rail and Transit says the Onida project is one of nine projects up for consideration by the board…
The City of Onida is also contributing 21-thousand dollars for the project. The federal portion comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law or BIL. According to a project narrative for the funding request the AWOS-III-P or Automatic Weather Observation Station is needed to provide pilots with detailed weather information to be more efficient and operate more safely. Onida Municipal Airport has an average of 105 operations per week as of June 2022 and is one of the busiest Ag spray bases in the state with up to seven Ag sprayers operating out of Onida at any given time.
