Zap Looking to Build in Second Year

The Oahe Zap will be getting the season started on Thursday hosting the Fremont Moo as the Zap begin its second year in existence in the Independence League.

The Independence League will have five teams participating in the standings this year with also three teams who will be playing independently once again this season. The Badlands Big Sticks have left the ILB, but the Zap remain with the Spearfish Sasquatch, Hastings Sodbusters, Casper Spuds and Moo. The Nebraska Prospects will play league teams for a second straight year and then Plainsmen Baseball and Bison Baseball will also play league teams this year. The Zap last year went 15-41, last in the Independence League in its first year. Jamy Habeger, second year head coach with the Zap and third year overall as head coach with Pierre says he’s hoping these guys are coming in feeling good and ready to go for the summer…

Habeger says while some are returning it’s mostly a new group this year…

The playoffs is one of the goals for the Zap this season and it would be the first for the team and only second time a Pierre team would be in the playoffs as a summer collegiate team. Habeger says it would be great to get there this year…

The Zap open up the season at home on Thursday against the Moo. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 at Hyde Stadium.
