PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre woman is one of 20 young South Dakota women scheduled to take part in the 77th annual Miss South Dakota competition next week in Brookings. Twenty-two year-old McKayla Gunderson of Pierre will enter the competition as Miss Missouri River. Her talent is the HERStory while her initiative Community Service is 16; Working Toward Success. The participants range in age from 19 to 25 years-old from across South Dakota and two from Nebraska. The winner will pocket at least 11-thousand dollars in scholarships and will represent South Dakota in the Miss America competition. Over 50-thousand dollars in cash and scholarships is available. Prelims will be held on Thursday May 30th and Friday May 31st at 6:30 pm. Finals are Saturday June 1st at 6:30 pm. The Miss South Dakota Teen competition will be held in conjunction with the Miss contest.
