PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre woman is one of 20 young South Dakota women scheduled to take part in the 77th annual Miss South Dakota competition next week in Brookings. Twenty-two year-old McKayla Gunderson of Pierre will enter the competition as Miss Missouri River. Her talent is the HERStory while her initiative Community Service is 16; Working Toward Success. The participants range in age from 19 to 25 years-old from across South Dakota and two from Nebraska. The winner will pocket at least 11-thousand dollars in scholarships and will represent South Dakota in the Miss America competition. Over 50-thousand dollars in cash and scholarships is available. Prelims will be held on Thursday May 30th and Friday May 31st at 6:30 pm. Finals are Saturday June 1st at 6:30 pm. The Miss South Dakota Teen competition will be held in conjunction with the Miss contest. All competitions are taking place at the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center at South Dakota State University. More information is available at misssd.org.
