Augustana Eliminated from Women’s College World Series

The Augustana Vikings softball team would be eliminated from the Division II Women’s College World Series on Tuesday falling to Wilmington, Delaware 5-2.

The Vikings finish the tournament going 0-2, the only two losses in postseason play. But the final loss would be the tough one to take. All five runs were unearned as Augustana had two costly errors. Taylor Gillis would hit a two RBI single in the bottom of the first which got Wilmington on the board first and would lead 2-0 until Andrea Cain would hit a solo homer in the top of the third to cut the deficit to one. Gracey Brink would score on a throwing error in the fourth to tie the game at 2-2 until Wilmington would score three runs in the bottom of the sixth as Gillis would pick up the go-ahead and winning RBI. Grace Glanzer gave up seven hits and no earned runs in another complete game. She picked up a strikeout in the loss.

Augustana finishes the season at 50-13 and is one of the eight teams to reach the Division II Women’s College World Series.
