Augustana Softball Drops World Series Opener

The Augustana Vikings softball team would lose for the first time all postseason with a 2-1 eight inning loss on Sunday to UT Tyler and will play on Tuesday to keep the season alive.

The Vikings would get its only run on a Desi Cuevas home run in the top of the sixth inning to give Augustana a 1-0 lead. But UT Tyler would tie the game with a two out single in the bottom half of the inning and the game would go to extras. A one out error allowed runners at first and second and Makayla Garcia would drive in the game winning run to secure the opening game win for UT Tyler and push Augustana quickly to the brink of elimination. Grace Glanzer allowed 10 hits and no walks with two strikeouts in the complete game loss.

Augustana will face Wilmington of Delaware on Tuesday and need to win two elimination games to reach the bracket two finals on Wednesday. First pitch on Tuesday is at 12:30 from Boombah-Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood, Florida.
