Augustana Comes Back, Holds off Central Oklahoma in Regional Opener

The Augustana Vikings baseball team found itself down 3-0 at the end of the top of the first, but the Vikings battled back and held off Central Oklahoma for a 4-3 win on Thursday.

The opening game is important to pick up and the Vikings didn’t roll over after the first inning. A three run double jumped started Central Oklahoma, but the offense quickly quivered afterwards. Ryan Clementi and Tate Meiners would each pick up an RBI hit in the third and fourth to make it a 3-2 ballgame which was tied in the seventh behind a wild pitch. Jack Hines would deliver the go-ahead hit to put the Vikings up 4-3 which they would hold on to for the win. Ethan Cole would get the final three outs to earn the save striking out two of the three men he faced.

Augustana will take on host Central Missouri on Friday. Central Missouri beat Minnesota State 12-10 in the opener. First pitch tonight is at 6:00.
