Softball Ends Losing Streak with Home Win over Spearfish

The Pierre Governor softball team would pick up its first home win of the season and stop its 12 game losing streak with a 12-8 win over the Spearfish Spartans on Monday.

Pierre would jump out to the early lead going up 8-0 through two innings which included a five run second. Jenna Bucholz would drive in the game’s first run while Micah Buffalo had the only extra base hit, an RBI double to make it 3-0 in the first. Buffalo would make it 5-0 with a sacrifice fly as Erin Leiferman would single home two runs and Noel Kist would ground into an RBI fielder’s choice giving the Govs an 8-0 lead. Spearfish, though, would answer with a five run third inning pulling within three at 8-5. But Pierre would put the finishing touches on the win scoring another four runs in the bottom of the third as Bucholz drove in her second run while Leiferman would pick up a second RBI to make it 12-5. Pierre out hit the Spartans 16-11 in the win while Kist would go all seven innings allowing 11 hits, eight runs, six earned, on three walks and three strikeouts.

Pierre is now 3-13 on the season and will host the Brandon Valley Lynx today. First pitch is at 4:00 from the Riggs Softball filed. It’s the final home game of the season for the Governors.
