FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — Fort Pierre Mayor Gloria Hanson has been recognized by Missouri River Energy Services with M-R-E-S’s Community Leader Award. The award was presented to Hanson last week at the 59th annual M-R-E-S annual meeting. The award was created in 2003 to honor local officials in M-R-E-S member communities who have provided multiple years of service to not only their community but to public power systems. During the presentation, M-R-E-S Board Chair Vernell Roberts says Hanson has tirelessly advocated for Fort Pierre and participates in a number of local organizations. Roberts added Hanson interacts daily with city staff and the community on issues and projects along with making time for frequent radio interviews and writing monthly columns about progress in Fort Pierre. Born and raised in Fort Pierre, Hanson was first elected to the Fort Pierre City Council in 2012 and became mayor in 2014. She has been mayor ever since. Hanson also volunteers as an M-R-E-S Ambassador, proactively raising awareness of public power and the value of joint action through M-R-E-S.
