NFHS Makes Changes for High School Wrestling

The National Federation of State High School Associations has made changes to the scoring and boundary in high school wrestling. The changes will be more in line with the collegiate level which had made the change over the last several years.

The changes in scoring is adding an extra point to a take takedown from two points to three and you can get a two, three or four point near fall depending on the timing. The other change is the one point of contact inbounds. NFHS states for the contact inbounds is to help officials be consistent when calling out of bounds and eliminates more of subjectivity of out of bounds calls. Shawn Lewis, head coach of the Pierre Governors says this is inline with college and he says when they made the change to college, he wasn’t so sure about it…

Lewis expands on how these matches will be more offensive…

But as for the Governors, Lewis says these changes won’t change a single thing of strategy…
