Governors Steal Split with Stevens Raiders

The Pierre Governors didn’t have the offense they were hoping for in the doubleheader against the Stevens Raiders on Tuesday, but still found a way to split with a 6-0 loss and 2-1 walk off win in game two.

The Governors had just three hits in game one, three different lead off singles but only had one man reach third base in the loss. Stevens opened up with a 3-0 lead in the first inning and it was all Jackson Dial needed on the mound for the Raiders. In his first start since coming back from an elbow injury he would go three scoreless innings allowing just one hit with one walk and eight strikeouts. He also had an RBI single making it 2-0 in the first inning. Blake Olmsted would hit a two run shot in the seventh to extend the lead to 6-0.

In game two, Luke Hanzlik would get the RBI single in the top of the second giving the Raiders its lone run and hit in the game as Cooper Terwilliger would go five innings allowing just the one hit and one run on six walk with eight strikeouts. George Stalley, in two innings in relief, would allow a single walk with six strikeouts keeping it 1-0 into the seventh. Pierre would get an RBI single by Nolan Petersen with two outs in the seventh to tie the game. With first and third, Petersen would take off for second early and with the pitcher running to second Dawson Getz would break for home and the throw was wide of the plate scoring the winning run and the Governors stealing the split.

Pierre is now 10-7 on the season and will face O’Gorman on Friday and Yankton on Sunday to close the season. All four games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
