Names Released In Fatal Stanley County Crash

FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — The names of those involved in a fatal head-on crash in Stanley County in April have been released by the South Dakota Highway Patrol. The crash happened April 12th just after 3:30 pm two miles west of Fort Pierre on Highway 14/34. The crash investigation indicates a 2018 Chevy Silverado driven by 81 year-old Lawrence Woodward of Dupree had crossed the centerline of the highway and into the path of oncoming traffic. At the same time, a 2010 Dodge Ram driven by 53 year-old Kellie Sipes of Mora, Minnesota was traveling the opposite direction. Siipes tried to swerve to avoid a crash but was unable to do so. The trucks collided head-on, on the passenger side of both vehicles. Both drivers were taken to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre. Sipes suffered serious non-life threatening injuries in the crash. Woodward died two weeks after the crash on Saturday April 27th. Neither driver was using a seat belt when the crash happened.
