Mount Marty Falls in Elimination Game

Mount Marty Falls in Elimination Game

The Mount Marty Lancers softball team would be eliminated in the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament on Thursday with a 6-4 loss to the Morningside Mustangs.

The Lancers officially went 1-2 in the GPAC tournament, but the eight seed was able to survive the elimination game on Wednesday. Mount Marty opened up the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI double by Kayleen Jacinto, but an RBI fielder’s choice and back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom of the first gave Morningside the lead for good leading 4-1 at the end of one. The Lancers did pull within one as Raegan Harper reached on an RBI fielder’s choice but drove in two runs in the process to make it 4-3 in the top of the second. The score remained until Morningside’s Kennedee Jones hit a two run homer in the bottom of the fifth. The Lancers scored a run in top of the seventh and had the tying run at the plate, but couldn’t convert it into runs.

Mount Marty finishes the season at 21-24. The championship series begins on Saturday at the highest remaining seed.
