Zabel Strikes Out Six, Texas State Falls to UTSA in Midweek Game

The Texas State Bobcats would fall 11-9 on Tuesday night in San Antonio, but had a season high 15 strikeouts, six coming from Pierre’s Peyton Zabel.

Texas State would jump out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning, but a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth gave the Roadrunners an 8-5 lead and with one out in the fourth, Zabel entered the game to help control the damage. Zabel did just that with six strikeouts in the seven men he retired in two and 1/3 innings. Zabel allowed just two hits and one walk. Zabel gave up a three run double in the bottom of the sixth, but all three runs were unearned as his only slight blemish in the team’s loss. He matched his season high with strikeouts with another six punch outs in his first outing of the year against Youngstown State back on February 18.

The Bobcats fall to 22-24 on the season with the loss and will face Old Dominion at home this weekend. Zabel is sitting at 24 innings pitched with 36 strikeouts and a 5.63 ERA.
