Governor Softball Drops Second Game of the Week

On the tail end of a back-to-back, the Pierre Governor softball team would fall 11-3 to the Mitchell Kernels on the road on Tuesday going 0-2 to start the week.

Mitchell jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after a two out double was scored by an RBI triple from Mallory Miedema, but the Governors would tie it up in the top of the second on a RBI single from Aliyah Erickson. Mitchell though would score three runs in the bottom of the third another five runs in the fourth to take a 9-2. Erickson had the lone RBI in the second inning as she and Ely Broers each had a triple in the loss while Broers went 2-3 and Erickson went 3-3 combining for five of the nine hits. Pierre committed nine errors in the game as six of the 11 runs were unearned from Erin Leiferman who went six innings in the circle giving up 13 hits, three walks and struck out seven.

Mitchell improves to 3-5 on the season while the Governors drop to 2-7. Pierre will travel to Sioux Falls this weekend and face Brookings in the first game of a four game weekend. First pitch is at 12:30 on Friday.
