FORT PIERRE, (KCCR) — A crash outside Fort Pierre in early April has claimed the life of one of the people involved. On Friday, April 12 a two vehicle crash happened on U-S Highway 14, two miles west of Fort Pierre just after 3:30 pm. A 2018 Chevy Silverado driven by an 81 year-old man had crossed the centerline of the highway into the path of an approaching 2010 Dodge Ram pick-up driven by a 53 year-old woman. The woman tried to swerve to miss the Silverado moving into her lane, but was unable to avoid a crash. The pick-ups collided in a near head-on crash impacting the passenger side of each vehicle. Both drivers were transported by A-M-R Ambulance to Avera St. Mary’s hospital. The male driver of the Silverado passed away from injuries in the crash on Sunday April 28th. The female driver of the Dodge Ram suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries. Neither of the drivers was using a seat belt. The names of both driver are being withheld pending notification of family.
