Names Released In Fatal Lyman County Crash Involving Ag Sprayer

PRESHO, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol has released the names of those involved in a fatal crash with a piece of agriculture equipment last week in Lyman County. The Patrol says 33 year-old Chance Veurink of Vivian was killed Thursday in the two vehicle crash on the edge of the Presho. The crash happened just before three-pm on 305th Avenue at the South Dakota Highway 248 junction at the southwest Presho city limits. According to the preliminary crash investigation a Case I-H ag sprayer vehicle was traveling north on 305th Avenue. A 2021 Fort Ranger was traveling west on Highway 248 nearing 305th Avenue. The ag sprayer, driven by 31 year-old Jan Bothma of Presho, failed to stop at the intersection and struck the pickup. Veurink was wearing a seat belt at the time but was pronounced dead at the scene. Bothma was not injured. The crash happened just north of the Interstate 90 Exit 225 ramp.
