Pierre Trap Shooting Team Begins 2024 Season

Tuesday night was the first of five weeks of competition for the TF Riggs/Georgia Morris Middle School team in the South Dakota State High School Clay Target League. 70 student athletes make up the team and compete each Tuesday night at the Izzak Walton League trap range. 64 schools from around the state are in the league. The league is made up of different conferences depending on school size. Pierre is in the large school conference and competes directly against Brandon Valley and Harrisburg. Nine years ago Pierre was one of the nine founding teams in the league. In 2018 Pierre won the state championship and has been runner up or placed third five other times.

On our first night of competition we had five student athletes shoot 25 straight. Rowdy Baldwin, Bryce Becker, Jaxon Jungwirth, Logan Steiner and Max Bogenhagen. In addition, we had 10 24s shot. Rowdy, Bryce and Jaxon lead the boys for the night with 49 out of 50. Megan Rose led the girls with a 45.

The team would like to extend a special thank you to Delta Waterfowl for supporting our 70 TF Riggs student athletes. Tuesday night they presented the team with a check for $3,500. This helps defray some of the costs for the 50,000+ shells and targets our student athletes will shoot this year.
