Public Utilities Commission Approves Filing Fee For North Bend Wind Farm Transmission Extension

PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission has approved a filing fee for East River Electric to apply for the construction of a short transmission line to the North Bend Wind Farm in Hyde County. East River is proposing to build a 500-foot transmission line to go from the North Bend Substation owned by the Western Area Power Administration to their own Pratt Substation. Two options were presented. East River pays eight-thousand dollars up from and no more than 16-thousand 290-dollars. Or pay 16-thousand 290 dollars and anything left over the eight-thousand gets refunded back. Commissioner Chris Nelson didn’t like the idea of taking more to refund excess later…

The Commission approved the refund option three-zero. The estimated cost of the project is six-point-five million dollars. A public input meeting on the request is scheduled for May 8th at the State Capitol.
