Ridge Leimbach would have an excellent game one in a 2-1 win over Brandon Valley as the Pierre Governors split the doubleheader on Friday on the road, dropping the second game 9-4.
Pierre would get both of its runs in the top of the sixth inning on a two RBI double by Leimbach who went the distance on the mound giving up a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh as his only blemish of the evening. He gave up just four hits, one walk on nine nine strikeouts including six looking, as he improves to 3-0 as a starter and gave Pierre an extra boost to work their pitching into the rest of the weekend. Leimbach only had to throw 83 pitches in the win.
Runs came a little bit easier for both teams in game two as Brandon Valley jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning and 5-0 after two. Carter Schiefelbein had two hits which included driving in the game’s first run for Pierre as Dawson Getz would make it 5-2. Parker O’Bryan would draw a bases loaded walk in the top of the seventh as the only RBI for Pierre who left nine men on base in the second game. Trevor Rounds would be tagged with the loss giving up five runs, four earned, on four hits, four walks and a strike out in two innings. Weston Northrup would relieve Rounds with three innings of work allowing one earned run and Getz allowing an unearned run in the sixth.
Pierre is now 6-3 on the season and will face the Jefferson Cavaliers on Saturday. Coverage will begin at 11:45 with first pitch at 12:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
