Governors Hang on for Tight Win in Huron

Things would start to look dicey in the bottom of the seventh in Huron on Tuesday night, but the Pierre Governors would hang on for a 4-3 victory to improve to 5-2 on the season.

Geroge Stalley would open the game with an infield hit and reach third on a two base throwing error from pitcher Jack Pedersen before scoring on an RBI groundout from Jett Zabel. The Govs would lead 1-0 until the fourth when they would strike for three runs which included an RBI from JJ Bucholz, an RBI groundout from Grayson Hunsley and an RBI double from Stalley as the Govs pushed the lead to four. Then in the seventh, with two outs and nobody on, Huron would start a comeback. Back to back walks with followed by an RBI single made it 4-1 before a two out error scored two more runs making it 4-3 and the tying run at second. However, Stalley would strikeout the final hitter of the game sealing the win for the Govs and the fifth win of the season. Cooper Terwilliger would pick up the win on the mound going four innings allowing just one hit while walking five and striking out six. Stalley would get the final nine outs with two hits, one earned run on two walks and four strikeouts.

Pierre will travel to Sioux Falls this weekend to face Brandon Valley on Friday and Jefferson on Saturday. Both doubleheaders will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
