Team South Dakota 16U Girls Reach Semifinals, Finish in Third Place

Team South Dakota 16U girls would finish pool play undefeated through Friday and win Saturday’s quarterfinal before falling 3-0 in the semifinal on Saturday night in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

South Dakota rolled passed the quarterfinal game beating the Green Bay Bobcats 6-0 Saturday morning. Brookings’ Kinzey Grendler would score the first two goals of the game as Sioux Falls’ Madeline Abbott and Lily Knutson each would score along with Rushmore’s Paige Zimiga and Watertown’s Harper Hendricks. Oahe’s Brylee Kafka would finish with two assists and Katie Reiss would pick up her first point of the tournament on an assist. Brookings’ Rorii Quam made 18 saves for the shutout.

Later in the night though, the Nashville Jr. Predators would get the best of South Dakota with a 3-0 victory. Even though South Dakota would outshoot the Jr. Predators 25-16, Nashville cashed in on its opportunity in the power play in the first period. Nashville only had one shot on goal in the third until the final minutes when they scored on two empty net goals to secure the win. Quam made 13 saves on 14 shots while in the net.

South Dakota claims third place in the tournament going 4-1 overall on the weekend as Oahe’s Kafka scored two goals and six assists while Reiss finished with an assist.
