Oahe’s Ava Lavinger and Team South Dakota 14U Girls fell just short of the National Championship with a 1-0 overtime loss on Sunday to the Vegas Jr. Golden Knights in Sioux Falls.
It was a defensively slugfest with shots at only 2-2 at the end of the first period and 12-5 at the end of the second period favoring South Dakota. The game remained tied through the third period sending the championship game into sudden death overtime. In OT, Vegas’ only shot would beat Moriah Lincoln as Lizabeth Smith would score the championship winning goal as Vegas defeated South Dakota 1-0 in both games they played this week. It’s a second place finish for Team SD, who were close to not even making the quarterfinals heading into its final pool play game.
Oahe’s Lavinger finished the weekend with two assists which was tied for the most on the team and fifth on the team in points.
