Governors Sweep Lincoln to Begin Sioux Falls Weekend Trip

Two big wins for the Pierre Governor baseball team on Friday as the Govs beat Lincoln 10-1 in game one and hold on for a 3-2 win in game two to sweep the Patriots.

The Governors opened up the first game of the day with a 2-0 lead in the top of the first behind Ridge Leimbach and Nolan Petersen each driving in a run as Pierre scored another run in the third and fourth to lead 4-0. The Govs picked up a big four run sixth to improve the lead to 10-1 as George Stalley, Jett Zabel and Leimbach each drove in two runs in the win while Stalley, Zabel, Leimbach and Spencer Easland each had two hits. Petersen finished with a 3-4 first game with a double. Eight of the nine hitters in the order recorded a hit as the Govs outhit Lincoln 14-3. Zabel went six innings on the mound allowing just one run on two hits, four walks and striking out seven.

In game two, Lincoln grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but it was a three run fourth as Charlie Simpson had a sacrifice fly RBI and a two out, two RBI single for Stalley gave the Govs the lead they would hold on to. Leimbach would grab the win on the mound throwing five innings allowing two unearned runs on three hits and 10 strikeouts. Leimbach did not walk a batter in the game. JJ Bucholz would finish the final two innings without allowing a hit on two walks and two strikeouts to pick up the save.

Pierre is now 3-1 on the season and will face Washington on Saturday in another doubleheader. Coverage is scheduled to start at 11:45 AM on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
