16U Team SD Wins Again, Beats Colorado

Team South Dakota 16U Girls are now 2-0 at the Tier II National Tournament in Green Bay, Wisconsin with a 2-1 win over Team Colorado on Thursday.

Brookings’ Kinzey Grendler would get Team SD on the board from a pass by Oahe’s Brylee Kafka with 7:30 remaining in the second period to put South Dakota up 1-0 in a game which opened up after the first goal. Watertown’s Harper Hendricks would make it 2-0 with 11:50 left in the third period which would be the eventual game winner. Kafka would notch her third assist of the tournament while Mitchell’s Makenna Tronnes would pick up her first point of the tournament. Colorado outshot South Dakota 14-6 in the third period and had scored eight seconds after going down 2-0 to cut the deficit to one, but Brookings’ Rorii Quam made 26 saves on 27 shots to put Team South Dakota at 2-0 and will be in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Team South Dakota will finish pool play against Valley Thunder, Alaska on Friday with a 3:00 puck drop.
