14U Girls Fall in Shootout to Fox Motors

Oahe’s Ava Lavinger had two assists on the afternoon, but it wasn’t enough as Fox Motors, Michigan came back from a 3-1 deficit and won in a shootout 5-4 over Team South Dakota on Thursday in Sioux Falls at the Tier II 14U Girls National Tournament.

Lavinger helped give Team SD a 3-1 lead assisting on both of Sioux Falls’ Juliana Chan’s goals. Sioux Center’s Brooklyn Byl would get the scoring started with 10:53 remaining in the period. But Fox Motors would score three unanswered goals after being down 3-1 to claim a 4-3 lead. Then it would be Brookings’ Sawyer Triplett to tie the game at 4-4 sending the game into overtime. In overtime during pool play, teams play 3-on-3 for a 10 minute period before heading to a shootout if the game is still tied. In the shootout, Byl and Triplett would both be stopped by the Fox Motors goaltender and then score on their second shot. Sioux Falls’ Emma Honner would hit the cross bar on the third attempt narrowly missing keeping the game alive. Team South Dakota picked up a point in the loss.

South Dakota will need a win on Friday and a little bit of help to make the quarterfinals on Saturday. They face the 2-0 Nashville Jr. Predators at 5:15.
