Team South Dakota 16U Wins First Game as Kafka Scores

Team South Dakota 16U Girls team would win its first game in Green Bay, Wisconsin at the Tier II National Tournament with a 4-2 win over Honey Baked, Michigan.

Watertown’s Harper Hendricks and Oahe’s Brylee Kafka each would score a first period goal as Team SD led 2-0 after one. Kafka’s goal was in the final minute of the period. Early in the second, Aberdeen’s Rachel Siefkan would score in the first minute and Hendricks would get a second goal as Team South Dakota would take a 4-0 lead. Honey Baked would get one back later in the second, but took until the final minutes to pull within 4-2 as South Dakota opens the tournament with a win. Kafka also picked up an assist in the win. Brookings’ Rorii Quam would make 35 saves on 37 shots.

Team South Dakota will continue its tournament on Thursday with a game against Team Colorado at 11:00 AM. Colorado lost 4-3 to St. James in the first game of the tournament.
