Governors Split Opening Games in Aberdeen

The Pierre Governor softball team would split its two games on Thursday as the Govs would beat Aberdeen 10-3 but fall to Watertown 8-3.

Pierre would score two runs in each of the first four innings to lead 8-0 heading into the sixth inning. Another run in the sixth and seventh to win it 10-3 over the Golden Eagles. Nevaeh Karber went 3-4 with three RBIs as she and Micah Buffalo each drove in three runs. Jenna Bucholz, Buffalo and Noel Kist each had a double for the Govs. Gretchen Jungwirth also had three hits as Pierre had 12 in the game. Kist would go all seven innings allowing four hits, all three runs were unearned and had 13 strikeouts to zero walks. Kist threw 92 pitches in the complete game.

In game two, the Govs would fall 8-3 to Watertown allowing all eight runs in the first three innings. Karber would have another two RBI for Pierre while Buffalo drove in the other run. Bucholz would have a double, the lone extra base hit in the loss. Erin Leiferman would pick up the loss going four innings allowing four earned runs, eight runs in total, on nine hits, one walk and a strikeout. BreAna Lowery would finish the last two innings only giving up two hits with three strikeouts.

Pierre will be off until Tuesday when they travel out to Rapid City. They’ll face Stevens at 1:00 and Sturgis at 5:00.
