PIERRE, (KCCR) — Officials with Austal U-S-A were in Pierre Tuesday to check out the city that one of their Littoral Combat Ships carries the name of. Austal U-S-A is constructing L-S-C 38 also known as the U-S-S Pierre. The Pierre is being assembled at Austal’s shipyard in Mobile, Alabama. Larry Ryder is Austal’s Vice President of Business Development and External Affairs. He hope Austal and the city have a good long-term partnership….

Two weeks after the Pierre is christened on May 18th it will finally meet the water….
Austal officials presented the city and the State of South Dakota with plaques created with aluminum from the Pierre engraved with significant dates in the ship’s construction.
