Dakota State Falls to Carroll in NAIA National Quarterfinals

The run for the Dakota State Trojans women’s basketball team would end Saturday evening with a 71-56 loss to Carroll College of Montana in Sioux City Iowa at the NAIA National Quarterfinals.

The Trojans climbed back from a six point first quarter deficit to pull within two at 34-32 at the half, but were outscored 17-8 in the third quarter and the closest they could come in the fourth was to 10 as the Fighting Saints held the Trojans back to advance to the National Semifinal to be played on Monday. Angela Slattery led the Trojans with 16 points while Lilli had 14 points and Cierra Watkins ad 10 off the bench to pace the Trojans on the afternoon. Jamie Pickens had 14 points and 18 rebounds while Maddie Geritz had 13 and 11 as both recorded double-doubles in the win for Carroll. The Fighting Saints outrebounded Dakota State 44-29. Outside of the rebounding margin, the difference in the game was Carroll shooting nearly 50% from the floor while Dakota State shot just 30% which included Carroll at 58.3% from long range and the Trojans at 19.2%. The season ends at 28-7 for the Trojans while Carroll is now 28-5 and will face Providence, Montana on Monday at 6:00 for a spot in the National Championship
