Dakota Wesleyan Cant’ Hold Lead, Falls to Cumberlands in Round of 16

The Dakota Wesleyan Tigers women’s basketball season would come to a close Friday afternoon as the Tigers would fall 87-80 to the University of Cumberlands Kentucky Patriots in the NAIA National Tournament Round of 16.

The Tigers would build 43-34 lead at halftime over the Patriots, but the lead would quickly vanish back down to a two point advantage after the third quarter. DWU would take a 74-71 lead with 5:43 remaining in the fourth, but Cumberlands would score seven straight to lead 78-74 and the Tigers were unable to catch the Patriots down the stretch. Shalayne Nagel would tie for the game high 21 points for the Tigers as Rylee Rosenquist would finish with 20 and Emma Yost having 15. Cumberlands had four players in double figures with Destiny Haworth scoring 21, Kassie Monday having 18, Channing Lewis with 14 and Joy Kendrick having 13. Cumberlands advances to the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Dakota Wesleyan’s season ends at 22-11 as the Tigers are bounced in the Round of 16.
