Fort Pierre Man Identified As One Of Two Killed In I-90 Crash In Lyman County

RELIANCE, (KCCR) — A Fort Pierre man is one of two men identified by the South Dakota Highway Patrol who were involved in a double-fatal crash in Lyman County. The crash happened on Interstate 90 around 7:45 pm three-miles west of Reliance. According to the preliminary investigation of the crash a Ford F-350 driven by 38 year-old Ryan Keith Taylor of Fort Pierre. A Kenworth semi involved in the crash was driven by 59 year-old Daniel Carl Kirkpatrick of Chandler, Minnesota. The Patrol says Taylor was driving the Ford west in the eastbound lane. Kirkpatrick was driving east in the eastbound lane at the time when the vehicles were involved in a head-on crash. Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. Kirkpatrick as transported to the Chamberlain Sanford Medical Center where he passed away. Seat belt use by Taylor and Kirkpatrick is still being investigated by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
