Two Year US Highway 14 Project Underway East Of Philip

PHILIP, (KCCR) — Work is underway on a major 2024 construction project on U-S Highway 14 in Haakon County. Tree clearing and other miscellaneous work started Monday to prepare for the replacement of three structures along an eight mile section of Highway 14 east of Philip. South Dakota Department of Transportation crews will build temporary traffic diversions at two of the three construction locations. Spot grading and resurfacing will also be done for six miles east of Philip. To keep traffic moving, pilot cars, flaggers and shoulder closures will be used. Officials expect the diversions to be finished in mid-April. The diversions will be in place for most of the 2024 construction season. The first phase of the project is projected to be finished by the end of October. Work will pick up again in the spring of 2025. The 16-point-seven million dollar project has a final completion date of November 7th of 2025. Perrett Construction of Valentine, Nebraska is the prime contractor on the project.
