Four Capitals Get Nod in Second Class for South Dakota Hockey Hall of Fame

For the second straight year, the Oahe Capitals Hockey Association will be seeing more inductees into the South Dakota Hockey Hall of Fame. This year, players Cash Anderson and Cody Bishop will enter into the Hall of Fame while Dave Nelson will enter in the builder category and Rob Kittay in the coaching category.

The four members join already three former Oahe Capital players Landon Badger, Matt Farris and Austin Wagner. The seven members are the most of any organization in the state. Jon Kotilnek, coaching director says to have now five former players in only the second year of the Hall of Fame is incredible…

Anderson, who graduated in 2014, finished his career with 35 goals and 50 assists for a total of 85 points. Bishop is the all time wins and saves leader while also second in save percentage in Oahe Capitals history. Bishop was the winning goalie for the 2011 state champion Capitals and recorded 63 wins including 12 shutouts, also most all time while stopping 2,079 shots for a 91.2 save percentage.

Nelson will enter in as a building category. One of the few people who can say they’ve been involved with the Oahe Capitals every year since the start, Kotilnek says it’s fitting for Nelson to be in the Hall of Fame in the builder category…

Kittay is the first and only one of two coaches in the varsity ranks for the Oahe Capitals. Kittay won the league four times in his 21 year tenure as the coach which included the 2011 state championship. Kittay amassed 382 varsity wins starting from the 1999 season to the conclusion of 2019. He had a point percentage of 68.71% with a win percentage at 61.61%. Kotilnek says it’s very well earned…

The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, April 12 at 7:00 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. You can register for the event by going to the SDAHA web page and following the link to Hall of Fame page.
