Pierre Man Sentenced To 35 Years For Assaulting Hughes County Jail Staff

PIERRE, (KCCR) — A Pierre man has been sentenced for his role in assaulting staff at the Hughes County jail. The South Dakota Attorney General’s Office says 30 year-old Isaiah Rouse was sentenced to 35 years in the South Dakota State Penitentiary Friday. A Hughes County jury found Rouse guilty in October on three counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Threatening a Law Enforcement Officer or Family. The assaults occurred on January 13th and February 25th of 2023 at the Hughes County Jail and involved four separate detention deputies at the facility. Attorney General Marty Jackley says the case is a good examples of the dangers law enforcement and correctional officers face on daily basis. Rouse was facing a maximum sentence of 150 years in prison as a result of being a habitual offender.
