Department Of Transportation To Start Highway 63, Cheyenne River Bridge Project Monday

PIERRE, (KCCR) — The South Dakota Department of Transportation is ready to start some construction projects across the area. Officials in the Mobridge Area office will begin a bridge project on Monday on state Highway 63 in Haakon and Ziebach Counties. The project will replace bridge joints on the Cheyenne River bridge and grinding of the bridge’s deck surface. The work will also include sealing the decking with a polymer material to prevent water from getting into the surface. That process will also add de-icing chemicals into the concrete of the bridge decking to increase skid resistance and stopping friction. The bridge will have an 11-foot width restriction during the work and traffic will be reduced to a single lane, controlled by a set of traffic signals. Delays at the signals could extend up to five minutes. Contractor B-X Civil and Construction of Dell Rapids will perform the work. The two-point-four million dollar project is expected to end in September.
