Governors Dig Deep to Take Fifth Place in AA State Tournament

In a game where the Pierre Governors and Mitchell Kernels showed fatigue, the Governors came out victorious in a slugfest with a 48-47 win to take home the Consolation Championship in Sioux Fall at the AA state tournament.

After dropping the first game of the state tournament, the Consolation Champion is the one who shows the most character to come back the next two days and win games after a state title hope is dashed and it’s what Pierre did this weekend while also avenging two losses from earlier in the season. Pierre defeating Stevens 52-47 on Friday and holding off the Kernels on Saturday shows more character from the team. Ryann Barry would tie the game high with 16 points as Lennix DuPris finished with 12. Barry, DuPris, Reese Terwilliger and Aleise Christopherson all played every minute of the game on Saturday. DuPris hit two big free throws which gave Pierre a three point lead in the final seconds to help secure the win. Mitchell was led by Addie Siemsen with 16 points while Sawyer Stoebner had 12 and Lauren VanOverschelde had 10 for the Kernels.

Pierre finishes the year at 17-7 taking home fifth place at the AA State tournament. Seniors Barry, Christopherson, Terrwilliger, Brianna Sargent and Lavin Price finish their careers with the Pierre Governors on a win.
