Capitals Battle Tough, Fall to Rangers in OT

The Oahe Capitals have now played its two best games of the entire year and at the state tournament, but on Saturday night, the Caps fell to the top seeded Brookings Rangers 2-1 in overtime.

Spencer Anderson had a magnificent game in net stopping 32 shots on 34 chances which included 29 saves in regulation. The Caps had to kill off five full power plays in regulation and then another two in overtime as the Rangers were 1-5 in regulation, but Owen Schneider would net the game winner with 1:48 left on the power play in OT. Keller Herman would get the scoring started in first period as he picked up the puck on the blue line, drove in on a 2-on-1 and beat Addison Ronning top shelf to give the Caps a 1-0 lead. Riley Linstad would tie the game up on the power play later in the first and we remained scoreless until overtime. The Caps outmanned the Rangers 5-on-5, but going 0-1 on the power play and seven chances on the man advantage for the Rangers helped Brookings advance to the state title game where they will face the Rushmore Thunder.

Oahe will play for third place against Sioux Falls West on Sunday at 12:00. Coverage will start at 11:45 on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with Jon Winkler and Jim Lloyd on the call.
