Pirates Hang Tough, White River Overpowers to Reach 19th Straight State Tournament

The Highmore-Harrold Pirates would hang tough against the number one overall seed in the SoDak 16 on Tuesday, but the White River Tigers would defeat the Pirates 65-47 in Ft. Pierre to advance to the Class B state tournament.

The Pirates were not going to go away without a fight as Highmore-Harrold charged back from a double digit deficit in the second quarter to trail just 28-22 at the break. The lead was just eight at the end of three quarters with the Tigers leading 46-38. But the Tigers pulled away down the stretch to reach its 19th consecutive state tournament. Nic Marshall would have the game high 28 points for the 21-2 Tigers with Evastine Wright adding 14 and Jordan Uhlir dropping in 12. For Highmore-Harrold, senior Trake Cowan would get the team high 20 points, the only Pirate in double figures.

Highmore-Harrold’s season comes to an end with a 13-10 record. White River will be the top overall seed in the first round of the Class B state tournament facing Viborg-Hurley, the 10 seed now the eight seed after upsetting Faith earlier in the day in Ft. Pierre.
