Pierre School Board Rejects Bid For Athletic Expansion At Riggs

PIERRE, (KCCR) — The Pierre School Board has voted to reject the current bid for an athletic expansion at T-F Riggs High School. The Tuesday special meeting of the Board offered public comment from Barb Stangland and Shawn Lewis. Lewis, the Pierre Governor boys wrestling coach says the addition, which would include expanded space for both wrestling programs, would offer space for other school practices…

The estimated cost for the addition is just shy of 16-million dollars not taking into account any interest if taking on debt takes place. Board member Joan Adam says she’s heard about fundraising for the project and believes the community has been asked to give a lot recently…

Board president Randy Hartmann says he doesn’t believe taxpayers would support an opt-out to raise the needed money…

The Pierre School Board rejected the athletic expansion bid on a four-one vote. Board member Jessica Lewis, Shawn Lewis’ wife voted in favor of the expansion.
