Governor Girls Punch Ticket to State AA Tournament

The Pierre Governor girls basketball team, leading 27-20 at the half, came out in the second half and methodically wore down overmatched Huron, and pulled away with a 63-36 victory Friday night at Pierre T. F. Riggs gym.

The three Governor players who reached double figures in scoring when Pierre and Huron met February 6th did the trick again Friday night, this time junior Lennix DuPris led with 19 points with three threes. Reese Terwilliger added 18 and went 10 of 11 from the free throw line and Ryann Berry added 15 for the 15-6 Governor girls.

Fouls took their toll on Huron, with leading scorer Hylton Heinz fouling out with 12 points, and low post starters Elizabeth Heinen and Makenzie Siemonsma also went to the bench in the second half.  Huron finishes their season at 7-14.

The Governor girls will be heading to the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls next Thursday through Saturday as the fifth seed, and will face fourth seed Sioux Falls Jefferson in the second game of the afternoon, following top seed Sioux Falls O’Gorman taking on eighth seed Rapid City Stevens. The evening games have second seed Mitchell against seventh seed Harrisburg, while third seed Brandon Valley and sixth seed Spearfish round out day one of play.
