Capitals Fall in Third Place Game Finishing Fourth on the Year

The Oahe Capitals would fall 4-3 to Mitchell on Sunday afternoon in the third place game at the girls state tournament finishing the year and tournament in fourth place.

Oahe would get goals in the first period from both Dakota McEntaffer and Brylee Kafka building a 2-0 advantage, but the Marlins would battle back to tie the game at 2-2 at the end of the first period and it would remain the same score until Mitchell scored twice early in the third to lead 4-2. Kafka would score her second of the game to pull the Caps within one at 4-3 late, but would be unable to get a true scoring chance in the dying seconds as the season came to an end. Oahe finishes the year with at 9-7-1. Sophia Peschong made 21 saves on 25 shots.

Seniors Alayna Youngbluth and Cami Larson end their high school careers with the Caps. Aberdeen would knock off Sioux Falls 1-0 in the state championship to claim the 2024 state title.
